CBD Basics
CBD
CBD or Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. CBD binds to and blocks cannabinoid receptors and increases anandamide in the body, which results in many positive effects.
Anandamide
Anandamide is an endocannabinoid known as 'the bliss molecule' due to its positive effects. Increased levels of anandamide leads to less anxiety and fearfulness, pain relief and inflammation reduction, sleep promotion, elevation in mood and happiness, and temperature regulation.
Broad spectrum
Full spectrum oil refers to products that preserve all of the cannabinoids, while broad spectrum oils have specific cannabinoids removed, commonly THC. Our broad spectrum oil undergoes a chromatography process that separates all of the cannabinoids in our hemp extract, removes the THC, and reconstitutes the remaining cannabinoids. It is important to retain the many other cannabinoids that interact with CBD and create a beneficial 'entourage effect'. Our products provide the benefits of the cannabis plant without the psychoactive effects of THC.
Hemp vs Marijuana
Hemp and marijuana belong to the same genus of flowering plants, known as Cannabis, but have different cannabinoid profiles. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC, while marijuana contains about 20% THC on average. Hemp typically has much higher CBD content compared to marijuana. All of our products are hemp-derived.
Cannabinoids
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical constituents that interact with our body's endocannabinoid system. Endocannabinoids refer to the cannabinoids naturally produced in the body, such as anandamide. Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids naturally found in plants, such as CBD and THC in the cannabis plant.
Cannabinoid receptor
Cannabanoid receptors are sites within our body's endocannabinoid system where cannabinoids bind in order to activate their benefits. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are found in the brain and central nervous system and are associated with mood, anxiety, temperature regulation, and sleep. CB2 receptors are found in immune cells and are associated with inflammation and pain.
THC
THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. THC is the cannabinoid that produces the psychoactive effects associated with the 'high' feeling. All of our products are THC-free.
Terpenes
Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in many plants, and each terpene has a unique color, flavor and odor. In our CBD Softgels, we add a terpene called beta caryophyllene, which is an abundant terpene in cannabis that acts similar to a cannabinoid. Beta caryophyllene binds to and activates CB2 receptors that play an important role in pain and inflammation reduction.
